Liz continued in June with the guest lecturing series at the Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School campus in Leura, NSW. With 2 intensive days of workshop incorporating many group exercises and activities the Masters students increased their knowledge of Housekeeping operations in order to gain a Masters Degree in International Hotel Management and Global Business Management.
There were 15 participants in the latest 2 day Development Programme for Housekeeping Managers held in Sydney last week. This workshop was held in conjunction with PHAN. Participants came from hotels in the CBD such as Marriott, Four Seasons and the Grace along with lecturers from the Blue Mountains hotel school and one participant even coming up from Adelaide. Valuable networking and sharing of best practice was critical along with skills in project management, preventative maintenance, health and safely and environmental sustainability.
A recent study carried out by The Hague Hotel School found that cleanliness of bedrooms and bathrooms was the most important factor for guests in their opinion of a property and their decision to leave negative online reviews. The study also showed that for 70% of hotel guests, hygiene is the ultimate factor in their decision to recommend a property. Figures like these should be enough to shock any hotelier into realizing that good performance in housekeeping is non-negotiable and an integral part to any successful hotel.
