Edinburgh 3 day Development Programme for Housekeeping Managers feedback from participants

Participants on the Edinburgh 3-day Development Programme for Housekeeping Managers included leaders from every kind of operation: new University converted hotels, small 9-bedroom properties and 5-star city properties. Every participant left with great tools for the future often ideas from others on the course.

This was very much a refresher for myself. I think some of us can become complacent. The course covered everything that I needed, I will use the new ideas within my team including celebrating successes and doing more stocktaking within my department. If there is another course next year then I would like to send my new Deputy on it. It’s refreshing to have this within the UK and hopefully will help and encourage more Housekeepers and give them the confidence they need.

The course is unlike anything else available as it is geared for Housekeeping Managers to increase their business skills. I found the budgeting section a great recap with excellent tips to help build a budget. Learning how to be an integrator and motivator are skills I will use daily along with learning how to manage up. Liz is a great tutor as you can tell how passionate she is about the industry.

I wanted to thank you for such a great three days. Your knowledge and experience of working all over the world as Executive Housekeeper is impressive and I learned so much in such a short space of time, and only wish that I could have done this course years ago! For me, the discussions regarding Finance were very helpful and you explained it all in a way which I understood without all the jargon. The role play was scary, but relevant and helped me come out of my comfort zone – some parts were also great fun! The best part was meeting other people in the same field, and it was so refreshing to see that people still care and are compassionate about Housekeeping. As you said, it’s hard to encourage people into hospitality at the moment, but we have got to keep making people see that it can be a great career. Now I am back at work, I will certainly put all I learnt into good use and look forward to updating my team with some really useful ideas and tips for moving forward.
